Antelope and HorseShoe Band

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. A slot canyon is a narrow canyon, formed by the wear of water rushing through rock.

This beautiful Antelope Canyon is one of the most spectacular slot canyons in the world. It is sculpted into beautiful undulating curves and hollows that vary from one to 3 meters (3.2 to 9.8 feet) wide and up to 50 meters (164 feet) deep.

Before visiting Antelope make sure you book a tour because an antelope can only be visited by an organized tour. We booked our tickets from : https://www.antelopecanyon.com/ and we took 11:30 AM tour for an upper antelope.

So, After visiting beautiful Grand Canyon National Park, we stayed at Super8 Hotel, Page, Arizona as we already had booked our tours for next day to visit Antelope and we were super excited to see the Nature’s wonder. At evening weather was nice and pleasant, but when we woke up next day early in the morning and saw that everything is covered with Snow.

Immediately called tour guide, he told we can only proceed to Upper Antelope but not Lower Antelope, that makes us sad, but its okay at-least we got chance to see Upper Antelope. It was freezing cold outside. Best time to visit an antelope is from late March through October.

If you want to visit both canyons best time is from late March till October, I recommend visiting Upper Antelope Canyon at 10:30 am (best chance to see those light beams but make sure you book your tickets well in advance!) and Lower Antelope Canyon at 1:30 pm.

Outside the hotel

Some curved parts of Antelope Canyon beautifully reflect light, and light beams can be seen in other canyon locations, especially during summer.

yeah, We reached our destination – Upper Antelope

Light through heart shaped sandstone formation.
Can you believe it is snowing outside

Tips:

  1. Light beams are beautifully reflected and can be seen in between 11AM to 1:30PM.
  2. Be aware that there is no toilet or drinks/food outside Antelope Canyon.
  3. Antelope remains closed during heavy rainfall due to risk of flash flood.

Horseshoe Band

After visiting Antelope we head towards Horseshoe Bend.

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, United States. The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River.

There is $10 charge for car park with basic toilets, once you have parked your vehicle, you can get into their shuttle which will take you to the starting point of short hike. There are so many points to take photos . The hike back on the other-hand is uphill and quite tiring I wouldn’t reckon it to anyone who has difficulty walking or has a heart condition.

Horseshoe Bend

During summers go can visit this place to see beautiful sunrise and sunset also.

TIPS:

  1. Wear hiking boots unless you enjoy hiking with your tennis shoes full of sand.
  2. Take water with you and food as per your desire, because its 1hour spot only including hike.
  3. The best time would be 11:00 to 12:00 to get no shadows on the walls.

Lower Antelope

Although we were not able to visit a Lower Antelope but would like to share information regarding a visit.

You can visit this Antelope with organized tour only, So book your tour when you plan for a visit : https://www.antelopecanyon.com/

Lower Antelope Canyon is shaped like a “V.” It is very narrow at the bottom and wide open at the top, making the lower canyon feel brighter and warmer than the upper canyon. Many people think, Lower Antelope Canyon is more fun, with narrow passageways to squeeze through and ladders to climb. The narrow walls at the bottom, twisting and turning their way through the canyon, are fun to walk through, sometimes even slide through.
